Having just migrated Confluence v5.6.6 from HSQLDB to MySQL prior to upgrading the "MySQL instance" to Confluence v5.7.1,  I now wish to uninstall/remove the old "HSQLDB instance" of Confluence.

My preference is to manually remove the old Confluence so that I can be absolutely certain that nothing in the new Confluence gets touched.

What would be the process for this?  I have all the logs safely archived and there's no database worry because the (unwanted) HSQLDB is stored in /database under Confluence Home.  is it as simple as:

  • zap Old Confluence Install
  • Zap Old Confluence Home
  • Tidy up init.d (etc)?

Hi Mark,

That's the basic gist. Remove the directory that Confluence needs to run (the install directory), delete the directory where Confluence stores its data (the home directory), and delete/drop the database.

If you installed Confluence using the Linux installer, you can use the uninstall command as described here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Uninstalling+Confluence+from+Linux.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Brian

Thanks for the reassurance. The complete manual uninstall ended up taking no more than a minute or two.. and that included removing the old confluence user.

Hate to revive this thread, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to delete the confluence user in order to uninstall Confluence. I suppose I could also just manually delete the installation directory but I'm not entirely sure that's "proper."confluence uninstall error.png
