Update Confluence 5.8.2 with the installer

The new Installer seems to work different than the old installers of the versions of 5.7.x.

I try to update one of our Confluence installations to 5.8.2, but the installer does not give me the option to choose the Confluence installation I want to update.

Console-Log of the new Installer:

Unpacking JRE ...

Starting Installer ...

This will install Confluence 5.8.2 on your computer.

OK [o, Enter], Cancel [c]

...

Express Install (uses default settings) [1],

Custom Install (recommended for advanced users) [2],

Upgrade an existing Confluence installation [3, Enter]

 ...

Back up Confluence home ?

Yes [y, Enter], No [n]

What's missing is the following option to choose the install directory:

Existing installation directory:

[/opt/atlassian/confluence]

Does anybody know, how to select the Confluence installation i want to update.

I have thre running Confluence installations in

• /opt/atlassian/confluence-test
• /opt/atlassian/confluence-prod
• /opt/atlassian/confluence-preprod

and i want to update the test instance.

I've just raised a Bug for this behaviour, since we cannot upgrade Confluence to 5.8.x using the Linux installer: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-37776

Hi Anton,

                  Did you try Upgrading using Standalone Zip 5.8.2, 

Process looks like this.

1. Download the Standalone tar.gz 5.8.2 from https://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/downloads/binary/atlassian-confluence-5.8.2.tar.gz
2. Stop current test instance.
3. Rename existing test as /opt/atlassian/confluence-test-archive (can be deleted later)
4. Untar in the appropriate directory structure and rename such that it looks like  /opt/atlassian/confluence-test
5. Browse confluence.init.properties file from /opt/atlassian.confluence-test/confluence/WEB-INF/classes
6. Go to the last line of the file, uncomment confluence-home and edit the path of confluence-home, save it.
7. Make any changes regarding port number, https configuration if you have earlier in server.xml which can will be in /opt/atlassian/confluence-test/conf
8. Once you save all the configurations, start the confluence service and check for logs to see Upgrade process.

I tried Upgrading with Installer file for Windows and it showed the existing Installation directory.

Did not try on Linux, Will let you know if i have same issue as you are facing.

It is always better to Upgrade using standalone tar.gz for Linux or Standalone zip for Windows. This is out of my experience in Upgrading Confluence for many Clients.

Hi

As additional information, in case you try the standalone version, remember that JAVA 1.7 isn't supported anymore.

You should use JAVA 1.8.
