Hi community!

We need to upgrade our old environment from 5.7 version to 6.12. Database - MySQL . It takes a lot of time to change collocation , moving mysql data etc. Is there any ways how to upgrade Confluence from 5.7 version more faster?

Hi @Andrew Striletskyi

if you're only upgrading Confluence from 5.7, it's very quick and easy to do if you follow the documentation.

Basically, when you've tested the upgrade on your staging environment you will have to:

  • stop Confluence
  • backup you Confluence database
  • download the Confluence 6.12 binary, extract it and point it to your existing Home Directory (don't forget any specific changes you might have done to your config files)
  • start Confluence again

Let me know if you have any questions,

So, the answer is "no, you can't go faster", you have to do it properly, via Alexis' route.

Or you can use my approach:

  1. Set up the new version of Confluence on a new server (fresh install).
  2. Do a site export/backup of the your old server.
  3. Re-import into the new server.
  4. Update DNS to point to the new server.

This method has some advantages:

  1. If it does not go well, you still have the old server running.
  2. You don't bring across a lot of cruft from the old installation (especially true if this is not the first upgrade on the existing server).
  3. You can easily start the process over without impacting service.
