Where did the <3 emoticon come from?

Bob Sovers December 24, 2015

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Using Symbols, Emoticons and Special Characters

Along with the 20 standard emoticons, we also have the emoticon heart   ( <3 )

But I have not seen this in ANY of the documentation about the emoticons.  Is this just an easter egg? Are there any other hidden emoticons?

There's also the broken heart: broken-heart</3

And the wink: wink ;-)  ;)

I'm guessing some Atlassian engineer is implementing what he or she needs.

The wink is documented, though the acceptance of the - in the middle is not... :-) ;-) :-D :-p

Hey guys,

You're right smile.

I didn't know that too, so I've updated this https://confluence.atlassian.com/conf56/confluence-user-s-guide/creating-content/using-the-editor/using-symbols-emoticons-and-special-characters article with these news emoticons. lol
