Why can't I use 'Confluence Roadmap plugin' in a template?

When I include this macro (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.atlassian.confluence.plugins.confluence-roadmap-plugin/server/overview) as part of template, I get the error "Please complete the configuration in the preview area first" and cannot insert the macro.(insert remains greyed out)

This only happens when the macro has been created in a text data field so that it can be pulled by a report and is being inserted via 'edit contents'.

I have no problem doing this with other macros. Any ideas how I can get this to work?
