Why does the link to a calendar in a reminder not work?

I have a calendar event that sends an email reminder on the morning of the event. However, when I click on the link in the email I end up on a page that looks like the image below.

But if I click the 'View it there' link it takes me to the calendar like I'd expect it to do if I click the link in the email.

Why would it do this and how can I fix it?
