Why is e.g. the menu on top right called "Save for later" and not "Add to Favorites"?

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Favorite Pages Macro

Why is e.g. the menu on top right called "Save for later" and not "Add to Favorites"? It's confusing to use different terms for the same. Or is there any difference which I don't understand? (Sorry I'm a new user of Confluence).

Thanks a lot.

For me there is a difference in the "real" world. wink

  • Favorites are "permanent"
  • "Saved for later" are links/pages which I want to re-visit/read later because I have no time at the moment (you have a page with x links and you open them but you can't finish to read them all). A "saved for later" page can become a favorite page of course.

Would be great if we can have a difference in future release. Currently I save my real "Saved for later" as extra links in my personal space.

Nice idea - I'd raise it with Atlassian as a suggestion.

No, there's no difference, it's still "add to a list I will come back to".  The UX designers decided it was a better phrase than "favourites" (and I notice it dodges a spelling mistake in American English - the English word has a u in it)

Why is it called save for later? It used to be called favorites and everyone understood what it meant. Someone at Atlassian thought save for later made more sense but that change has caused nothing but confusion.

Favorite and Bookmark are industry terms that have been used for decades and are clear, concise, and globally understood. I agree that the Save For Later terminology seems like a draft or a copy you would save and then read later. I would expect if you saved for later you would be saving a copy of that page at that moment in time to read later, and if the content changed, your saved copy would not change, but this is not how it works.

Either that or something that you want to read at some point, but not now and once you read it you will "un-save it". I agree that favorites and save for later are two totally different ideas and the terminology should not have been changed.

Yeah, I'm not too thrilled with the new lingo. To take a feature that has been around for so long and change it s meaning is poor design in my opinion.
