This is an out of the box answer without plugins.

You can do something similar to this:

However, a list is a list. So a numbered list vs a checkbox list is the same thing. You can't have both a numbered and check list on the same line, but the child line can be a checkbox list OR numbered.

Hopefully that gives you an option and clarifies some.
