now that we run our new Confluence version, I also changed the way of authenticating users. They are now identified by our companies LDAP system which is only readable.
Therefore, the "Forgot Password" link isn't really useful. People always click it when they forget their pw and Confluence bravely tries to change the password by users choice but throws an (expected) error..
Is there a way to hide or remove that link on login page?

Sounds like you have an excellent understand of authentication and inner workings of Confluence. The short answer for if you can remove the forgot password link is, Yes! The long answer is there are a few steps you have to complete to do this:
#forgot-password {
display:none;
}

Once this is completed, your forgot password link should be removed.

Thanks for sharing this. Is there maybe a way to redirect them to the JIRA forgot my password option?
