How can I rename the space key.

Yes - it is fraught with all sorts of problems as that means all the space and page URLs and associated attachment links all get broken.

So what I would suggest is to just create a new correct Space

Then use the Copy Page Tree plugin to copy all the pages (with attachments) from the old Space to the new Space.
