I have issue confluence will not start on ubuntu 4.4.0-116-generic #140-Ubuntu SMP after trying to follow the upgrade path from trial version we had running on same box . and postgres db as our bitbucket and jira.
here was err . after typing in new db user and db name
HTTP Status 500 - Unable to register MBean [com.atlassian.confluence.jmx.TaskQueueWrapper@f92e3b] with key 'Confluence:name=MailTaskQueue'; nested exception is javax.management.InstanceAlreadyExistsException: Confluence:name=MailTaskQueue
three questions arise from this ..
1 . is this correctable eeping the same server and configuration we run jira and confluence on same server and postgres
2 . ...are we just asking for trouble and headaches
lastly,
3 the 'uninstall' as documented here does nothing when I run
has anyone had problems with same and how did you get around it please

thanks
Hello Ann,
Thanks for advice / comments. I followed the process outlined here
which does include a link you provided, Migrating to Another Database. I think issues arise from the scattered linking and complexity of upgrade path from trial in general.
What turned out to be the easiest is just to reinstall.
We are beyond that problem now but thanks again for researching. the tidbit. Note: The <confluence_home> directory is the path defined in the following file: <confluence_install>/confluence/WEB-INF/classes/confluence-init.properties. is very helpful in our present issue trying to get confluence too play nice with nginx proxy.
we kept getting warning that base URL set incorrectly for confluence.domain.com. when we corrected that , we received gins bad gateway which went into another rabbit hole now of modifying server.xml. when we modify server xml as the comments suggested we no longer able to access site by confluence.domain.com. only with confluence.domain.com:8090. , so tracking that now.
I am guessing you found: Running Confluence behind NGINX with SSL but figured I would link it just in case.
Thanks for letting me know the bit about finding the home directory was useful. :)

Hi Thomas,
When you say you were upgrading from the trial version does that mean you were running Confluence with the embedded H2 database and were migrating to PostgreSQL? I ask because the process for migrating is usually to spin up a new instance against PostgreSQL and then import an XML site back-up from the instance that was running H2. Please see Migrating to Another Database if this is what you would like to do.
1. Regarding the error being correctable: The error you are reporting on startup resembles the one in this article: Unable to Start Confluence Due to JMX.
It is fine to have Jira and Confluence on the same server and using the same db server, of course they need separate databases on the PostgreSQL instance.
Please let me know what steps you took to upgrade Confluence and what the versions were that you were upgrading from and to.
2. I don't think you are courting trouble and headaches by using the same server, as long as there are sufficient resources.
3. I am not sure what is happening when you try the uninstall script. Please let me know why you would want to uninstall if you are upgrading. We can look into it further if you still need to run it. The logs are in:
<confluence_install>/logs/ (anything recent in this directory)
<confluence_home>/logs/atlassian-confluence.log
Note: The <confluence_home> directory is the path defined in the following file: <confluence_install>/confluence/WEB-INF/classes/confluence-init.properties
Best wishes,
Ann
