I have created 5 new projects, using this new 'templates' interface, in the hopes that one would eventually be a software project, but they all turn out to be business projects.
It used to be simple where you were given the option to choose either business type projects or software type projects and then choose a template. Not anymore!
My new enterprise class backups tool doesn't backup business projects, but does backup software projects. Kind of ridiculous, but here we are.
Can someone please tell this old 'JIRA veteran' :D how to easily create a new software project? I have not found any clear documentation either.
Thanks very much,
Mike
When you navigate to the Project templates screen to create a project, do you see an option "Software development"? Kanban & Scrum are Jira "software" type projects.
I believe the reason Atlassian has configured the project templates this way is because Jira Work Management (aka Business) and Jira Software are being merged into just Jira.
Thanks Gary. I don't like this current process, but I have to accept it.
I realized that I was unintentionally click the "share setting from other projects" checkbox before creating the project, so it was making a business project.
I sure hope Atlassian engineers aren't getting paid to make the UI more unnecessarily difficult. :D
Thanks again.

The "Share settings" does not directly make the project a Business project. That option allows you to create a new Company Managed project that uses the same configuration schemes (issue types, screens, fields, workflows, etc.)as the project you specify. But the type of project created is based on the template you select as shown in the image provided by @Gary Spross

@Mike Bell
Are you in the new UI? If you are in the new UI all project will look like business project as software and work managed are now combined to be the same look. Its now just Jira.
The other reason you might not be able to create Jira software projects is that could be reserved for only Admins to create or you don't have Jira software product access. This is all depending on how your site is setup.
Are you and product admin or Jira admin?
