Contributors don't have access to project

mario.dominguez May 7, 2025

Hi all!

I'm trying to give access to JSM users as Contributors to a project but when i add them an error appears:

"For this user to have creator access to this project, it needs product access with the Creator role. Contact your site admin to request product access with the Creator role for the user."

and the user has the administrator role but no access to the project. Ex.

user: mario / email: mario@domain.com / product access: contributor / role: Administrator

added to the group: jira-product-discovery-contributors-mediarex

That permission configuration is given by default. And can't manage the access level of the project.

It's supposed to be unlimited for contributors but can't manage to given them access to the product.

It's quite contradictory, not sure if I'm doing something wrong..

Hi, are you on the free plan of Jira Product Discovery? If so everyone in the project is an admin by default - which is why the "role" selection is greyed out. BUT they'll only be able to perform creator/admin actions if if they have a product license.

If they don't, then they'll be limited to only be able to do what contributors can do.

So, in other words, I think you're good already and you can ignore this message.

Hi,

Thanks! Quite confusing in terms of messages and errors. I managed to configure it and they have access to the project.

Thanks!
