Jira insight in JSM

Gediminas Kulys November 28, 2022

First of all I wanted to ask if it's possible to show insight information to JSM ticket like reporters owned laptops etc without having that reporter as asset object.

If not , then how I can create user asset object with info from AD can  I sync it somehow ?

Hello @Gediminas Kulys

Yes, you can show insight asset object data in request types. They can come in many different object types.

You can build these out manually or you can import data on a sync. The import can now be on a schedule and there is documentation on how to do this.

Here is the landing page to configuration of asset documentation that will help you with these questions: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-service-management-cloud/docs/manage-your-assets-and-configuration-items-with-insight/

Import assets: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-service-management-cloud/docs/import-objects-into-insight-in-jira-service-management/

I would suggest to also take a assets training if possible as it helped me to learn the Insight/Asset module.

Once it is built out with the object scheme you need for your company you will be able to product those into object insight/asset fields.

Hope this is helpful and if you have more question let me know.

Hi @Aaron Geister _Trundl_ ,

When you're mentioning an "Assets training", what are you talking about exactly? Is there any official Atlassian training I'am not aware of, of did you get support/training from a local reseller. Because as far as I know, the How-to around the Assets Discovery tool is quite light. Talking about our use case : we would like to set-up imports from locally installed Assets agents on Windows devices, but can't find good technical documentation about that...

Yes, I took a training last year at teams 22 for insight admin training to learn how to better configure the schemes.

I have the import documentation attached it to last post. It lays most of it out. There is also a how to schedule imports with automation for jira tool. You will  need to export the data from AD into a csv or into a excel file. Then set up the import into insights.

In the top level asset scheme there is a import set up have you seen that?

Also note that this might be more difficult because of the server that AD sits on or your DC might also have network routing or firewall rules yo UI need to configure to allow the export of the csv into insights.

Sorry for the delay but here is a link to the Asset training that is available via Atlassian Univeristy:

Hope this helps. Let me also see if I can get the AD links for you how to integrate AD to Assets.
