Did you mean:

Automatically create sub-task by submitting a form

Sharon Freij November 19, 2020

I hope you can help me with my issue (or in fact my wish). I've already searched through this community and couldn't find an answer.

I'm using Jira Forms and project automation within Jira. But now I'm curious if I can combine it to solve my issue.
An user will create a new story by filling a pre-defined form. It's about a 'Lessons Learned' session after closing projects. For each learned lesson I want to create a sub-task, so that it can be solved by anyone in our organization.
So if you fill in the jira form that there were 3 lessons to learn (meaning the user faced 3 problems in their project), I like to have 3 different sub-tasks created. Preferable, already filled with information from that form.

Is that possible?

I'm using ProForma Forms & Project automation for Jira

Hi @Sharon Freij

So if I am reading this correctly, when the "lessons form" is created, you would like to create 3 different subtasks based upon the answers selected on the form. Is that correct?

Are you server or cloud?

It sounds like you are cloud as there are differences with what you can do.

If server and you have AFJ, you can copy the form directly into another issue and set up the subtask notification.

If cloud, then you would need to use linked jira fields copy the form contents.

I work with ProForma and if you want to work this through with me directly, you can post on support queue marked to my attention.

Hope that helps.

Hi @Kate Caldecott I am trying to implement that example for Cloud, but I do not see any possibility to copy the Proforma form, I have linked jira field.  What am I missing or doing wrong? Thank you in advance!

Hi @Radosveta Delcheva .

The documentation snippet in response to the article topic shared by my colleague Kate Caldecott refers to using A4J in Jira Server (also related clue are the tags which relate to Server). Unfortunately A4J in Jira Cloud does not have this "Copy ProForma Forms from Trigger Issue" action/option available for use. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you.

What you may be better off trying out for your use case would copying/cloning your issue using "Deep Clone" which works well with ProForma in Cloud. I refer you to the following documentation on this here:- http://links.thinktilt.net/deep-clone

I hope this info helps.

Let us know how you go.

Regards,

Andrew.
