How to import objects from a discovery import?

I'm struggling with something that I believe should be relatively straightforward and easy - how to import the zip file created by a discovery import.

I've executed the discovery import and have a zip file with two XML files, one describing the actual scan and one describing the objects. I've created a dedicated schema and created the object types automatically with a discovery import profile that creates the object types. The discovery import results in three object type mappings: host, connected device, and virtual guest (which is disabled automatically).

I left the discovery import profile as the default.

Executing the import doesn't add any of the objects (there are ~100 servers) but does add the discovery settings. Running Inspect Configuration results in several sections all marked as missing.

I deleted that object schema then uncompressed the zip file, removed the discovery settings XML, zipped the individual file back up, and recreated the discovery import profile, same object type mappings are created. Same situation - no objects created.

For reference sake I followed:

I've also tried manually creating additional attributes for the Host object type just for play but same thing (not that I expected anything else).

Alas I was right - this is easy-ish. During the automatic import config creation I was selecting a object type instead of leaving it as "none". Once I selected none all of the proper object types were created as first class and the import actually wrote the objects. Dumb.

What did your custom configuration end up looking like?
