Not to ruin the suspense, but… It’s already here!
If you’ve missed its release, don’t worry. Here’s everything that you should know about the dark mode feature in Jira.
First of all, Jira users have been waiting for this functionality for years now. Since it was originally not provided by Atlassian, people turned to various homemade alternatives to achieve the desired dark version of their digital working space. To answer these needs, the theme feature was eventually developed by Atlassian.
Early access program began last year, allowing users to opt-in through Jira labs to switch the visual version of their system. If you’ve missed this stage of the feature release process, it’s fine. A much bigger change occurred in the first quarter of 2023. The theme feature was officially moved to the open beta stage, and is now available for all Jira users. You can easily access it in your personal Jira settings anytime you want.
But it’s not the end of the journey. The Jira theme feature is still yet to enter the general availability phase in the middle of 2023. Until then, probably many enhancements will be implemented, based on the users’ feedback. It is also the time in which Marketplace vendors can develop the dark mode version of their applications, in order to fit in the new feature. Check out how our SolDevelo applications transformed to be compatible with Jira themes.
