Add sub-task option missing from new task view until sub-task is added

After creating a "classic" project (since sub-tasks are apparently not available on next-gen projects) then creating a task (Epic), there's no option to create a sub-task anywhere until I click it to be the old-style task layout (which I'm actually not finding again), which then gives me the option under menu to Create a Sub-Task...

Once a sub-task has been created, then a + button appears in a new Sub-Tasks section on the next-gen ticket, but before that, that section is not there...

So how are we supposed to create sub-tasks even on classic projects in Kanban? I'm not even seeing the option when creating a new task... Jira was so useful at my previous job, now I convinced our team to upgrade after explaining sub-tasks and they're almost impossible to find now.

Hello Dave,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the new issue view and Next-gen projects.

Indeed, you are correct to say that sub-tasks are not available for Next-Gen projects yet. We also have a feature request opened to implement it here:

No option to add a issue type "sub-task" for next-gen projects

Regarding the new issue view, I understand that the differences between both views can be confusing sometimes so we completely understand your point, however, you will find the option to create a new Sub-task in the flag icon right below the summary:

Now, if you are referring to the option that appears when listing the Tasks on the board (Without needing to open the task), you can vote on the feature request below:

Include the option to create sub-tasks on the new issue detail view

Additionally, I would like to let you know that both Next-gen Projects and the new issue view are still Lab features on JIRA, developed for the customers who requested a simpler and more practical use of JIRA.

That been said, our developers are still gathering customers feedbacks and deciding what features should be implemented or not. Please, feel free to vote/watch the feature requests informed and also give your feedback about the lack of these features so our developers can better understand how it is impacting your business.

P.S: To switch from the new to the old view of JIRA, choose your avatar > Personal settings.

I hope this information clears your questions, Dave.
