Advanced searching - functions timing out

A Jira query that we use that is no longer returning results on our dashboard or when run.  They appear to be timing out :

Here is one of the query: 

assignee was in (user.1, user.2, user.3) after startOfMonth() AND updated >= startOfMonth()

The query on occasion does produce results, but often times out. If you ran it and got results and re-run it after 5 minutes in returns "No issues were found to match your search".
