We have users who are inactive and not associated to any group or role, not even to jira-users group. Not all, but some of them still show up in the Assignee pick list. Any ideas, anybody?

The guys at Atlassian found out that it is a bug and reported it as JRA-29053. This is what happens:
Steps to reproduce:
From the test, it's seems that the Assignee field is retrieving the user "vicky" from the internal directory instead of the delegated directory.

please check the permission scheme of your project, especially "assignable users". Maybe they are registered there directly, not as group or role-members.

Thank you for your answer. Yes, I had already checked the permission scheme, and there are only groups (but not the Anyone group), and no single users.
