Automatic tagging of component

Is it possible to dynamically tag a component based on a custom field value?

You could consider using automation. I see you are on server version and I'm not sure what automation exists OOTB but you could use an automation addon if necessary e.g. Automation for Jira or Automation Lite for Jira (free). If the custom field value equivalent to your Components then you could simply copy it into the Components field. Of course if that was the case then you wouldn't need the custom field i expect.

I used Automation For Jira to complete this task. I add a component based on the users group. I'm sure for the condition you can either compare the condition if it will be a limited value choice. The same can be done in the Project automation but will only be useful to that specific project
