Automation to create multiple linked issues

Natalie Al-Delemi January 15, 2024

Hi,

I'm trying to create an automation to create linked issues from an assets custom fields with multiple objects.

I tried to use smart values and for each branching but it only creates one issue from the list.

Hi @Natalie Al-Delemi

Your rule shows branching to the current issue, and not branching over the objects (or smart values).  And so it would only create one new issue.

I am not using Jira Server, and so I cannot check this, but I do not believe Jira Server automation supports branching over anything except issues.  Please check that to confirm.

Kind regards,
Bill

Hi Bill,

thanks for your quick response. It's true that data center doesn't have the advanced branching functionality available.

What option do I have to create an automation?

I do not believe that would be possible with the built-in rule features, and the suggestion to add advanced branching for Server / Data Center has not had much activity: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JIRAAUTOSERVER-749

Other things to try would be:

  • investigate marketplace addons for this capability
  • build a service with another language / platform and then call that from an automation rule
