Can you alias values for a custom field in Jira?

Adam Conway July 26, 2018

We have a custom field for "client".  Currently it is set to a fixed list which is a list of the names of our clients.  However, we also have a code for each client.  I am happy with it always displaying the name but would like to be able to search by either code or name.  So either an option to alias the field possible values or to define them as key-value pairs.

Kind of like you can with projects:  Say I have a project with code FOO and name "Foo Development". If I type (in advanced search)

project = FOO

then it will try and auto-complete to

project = "Foo Development"

But it will successfully search with either.  i'd like to be able to do something similar with my "client" custom field.  Any ideas?
