When I drag and drop an attachment to a comment, it adds the attachment to the issue instead of an attachment to the comment. Does anyone know how I can fix this? This functionality works fine with Jira Cloud but not with Jira Datacenter

Hi @Go Prince ,

Welcome to the community!

Unfortunately, this is a known difference between Jira Cloud and Data Center versions. In Data Center, when you drag and drop a file, it will automatically attach to the issue itself rather than the specific comment.

To add an attachment to a comment in Data Center, you'll need to:

  1. Click on the attachment icon in the comment section
  2. Select your file through the file picker manually, or choose the available file in the issue ticket

This is different from Jira Cloud where drag and drop directly into a comment works as expected.

Using the manual attachment way in the comment should be what you're looking for.

Hope it helps 🙌

Hi Liam,  I have a related question. In Jira Cloud when I add a comment with an attachment it adds the attachment to ticket, and when i delete the comment it also removes the attachment from the ticket.

However in Jira Data Center, when i delete a comment that has an attachment, the attachment doesn't get removed from the ticket. I have to separately delete the attachment from the ticket as well. Is this behavior expected for both Jira instances or there is configuration I can do to enable attachments to be deleted along with the comment for Jira Data Center.

Thanks
