Changing the name of the Due Date Field

Is there any negative impact to changing the name of the Due Date field? IN our environment, we have a requested completion date and a projected completion date. I was going to rename the due date field to match one of these but wanted to make sure this doesn't have a negative impact to other areas of jira.

It is not possible out of the box to change the system field names. There is an unsupported method described here. I would however advice you to make new custom date fields to cover these 2 date fields as required for your environment. Look here for more details.
