Characters don't render correctly

When the following is cut and pasted from a text file, characters are corrupted. Any clues? Encoding is set to UTF8. See below:

ΔX SIRF = sma.points.plus.delta_xsi

looks like

<s>Δ</s> Î" X SIRF = sma.points.plus.delta_xsi

Tested this in JIRA 5.2.4 but not able to reproduce it. Therefore, you might want to ensure that UTF-8 is applied in all configuration in the Tomcat, Database, proxy and JIRA itself. There is an article that you can refer to:
