Choosing Project types

When setting up a project there is a choice of six types. But it appears that you can have Scrum and Kanban boards for all project types? What distinguishes these project types if you can set up Scrum / Kanban boards for each type? Why not just have one project type??

Project Types are differs with default Issue types and workflows in the project configuration.

For example,

If you select Scrum Software Development Type , then you will be able see workflow as To-Do > In Progress > Done

If you select Kanban type , you will be able see workflow as Backlog > Selected For Development > In Progress>  Done

You are correct that you can create any number of Kanban or Scrum boards on any project once it has created.  Selecting Scrum or Kanban at the project creation stage just means that a board is set up initially for you.

The main difference between these project types are the available Issue Types and Workflows that will be created for your project.  These can be viewed before the project is created (just select the project type and click Next, you will see the Issue Types and default Workflow that will be created).

All of this is configurable once the project has been created.  You can add/remove issue types, edit the workflows, reconfigure the boards etc.  All the selected Project Type gives you is a suitable starting point, so choose one that is most similar to what you want/how you work,

Project types are necessary for sorting projects and filtering in the future. Also, as I recall, it is possible to make default schemes for each type of project in order to quickly create projects, for example, separately for development, separately for HR, Management, etc.

You really can create boards to any project, so you can choose any type of project and modify it later
