We're upgrading to JIRA 6.2 over the weekend, and we're looking forward to using the Creator Field to identify who truly created the issue instead of who was entered as the reporter.
The one question I have, is when we upgrade, will the creator field know who the true creator is of issues created before the upgrade, or will it just use the reporter, and only know the true creator for issues created after the upgrade?
I have been sifting thru the documentation and am not seeing anything that explains this piece.
It will use the reporter I'm afraid, it can't go back.
It can't know who the original reporter was - the reason the field was added as an improvement was because JIRA does not log the creator of the issue if the reporter is changed.
I hear JIRA 6.4 will include a time travel feature so it can work out the creator of each issue

Thanks Nic, I thought that might be the case, but we had some hope that the data may have been saved somewhere we didn't previously have access to. Cheers!

I thought it might be as well, when I first ran into the need for a creator field. I ended up digging through the code to see if there was a way I could expose it, and found it's just lost :-(
