'Current Tasks' sprint in agile board

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
We've been using the JIRA agile board for the last 5 years and have (generally) found the continuous improvements to be helpful.
About a year ago (I'm guessing) a "Current Tasks" item appeared in the sprint selector (see attached image). We can't figure out how it got there, what to do with it, or how to get rid of it.
We've been ignoring it for a while, but for some dashboard widgets, it is chosen as the "Next Sprint Due" which is pretty annoying, seeing that we don't use it.
I can't find a darn thing about this by googling, searching Atlassian support docs, or this forum.
Can anyone tell me where to get more info about this "Current Tasks" option so we can figure out how to use it properly or get rid of it?
