Excessive LDAP connections

We are seeing an excessive amount of LDAP queries on our JIRA server. Talking like 23k per hour. Has anyone seen this issue or have any advice? The settings all seem to be fine in the admin settings.

Do you have nested user groups enabled? It may be possible that you have a directory structure highly based around groups within groups, and the nested groups option enabled, which could cause a spike like that.
