Exporting Jira project in Word is wrong format

When I export a Jira project I select the option for Word.  The resulting document has a .doc extension but it is actually HTML.  This causes a problem when I use other Word-compatible software which is expecting a Word doc.  Is it possible to export as standard Word .doc format?

You can't open it in Wordpad or other things that read traditional MS Word files.  You can open it in Google Docs by right-clicking on the file and choosing "Open with" and then "Google Docs".  

Don't double click on the original *.doc file.  That will only produce a screen of HTML / garbage.

Otherwise you have to use any third party application to export into word file.
