HOw do you manage ranking tickets in a board?

I'm using a "scrum" board and I either view by EPICS or ASSIGNEE.

This helps me view chunks of work in 2 week "sprints". We use this very loosely as the company is not fully agile yet.

I often rank the board so that each assignee or epic has the top issue on top, lower on the bottom. I'm noticing that when something gets moved to another state (column), added, or other action - the ranked list gets modified.

1. How do you normally manage this? Am I doing something wrong to lose the ranked list I spent so much time organizing?

2. If you rank the list on the planning view (sprint 1, sprint 2), etc. Should this ranked list also show up properly from top to bottom in active view?
