I want to display some read-only data that will come from another system.

In preparation, to test the field, I created a read-only custom field. I then edited the CREATE ISSUE transition to write some text into the field.

I am not seeing the field on the default form.

So how can I create a read-only field?

"Message Custom Fields" should do what you need. :)

You installed the toolkit and you don't see "Message Custom Field (for edit)" or "Message Custom Field (for view)" when you create a new field?

The edit one is for use in "edit" type screens (edit, create and transition), the over is for use in view screens.

Tried it. Don't see the fields anywhere.

I see the fields now. Just not where I expected them.

But I don't see the difference between the standard "Read-only Text Field" and the new "Message Custom Field (for view)" field.

Yes, I understand and see that difference in what I have done. I don't understand the difference between your "Message Custom Field (for view)" field and the standard "Read-only Text field," not the "Message Custom Field (for view)" field.

Oh, sorry - I mis-read your comment. As far as I know, the "Read-Only Text Field" is a field utilized for imports; I don't know much about how it works as I've never used it.

I've used the "message custom" fields with much success, so I've always just stuck with those. Since they display text as html it is a nice way to add fields that contain read-only info such as instructions, etc.

I can see it in View, but how can I make it appear in "Create" screen?

Hi Mark, For Create and Edit screens, you'll want to use the custom field type of that plugin called "Message Custom Field (for edit)". :)

This feature definitely no longer works or is supported if you have JIRA Data Center.  I made two fields one of edit and one of view - neither are visible anywhere and the "where's my field" thing tells me it should be visible and isn't so ????  Searching for something else now.
