How can I create multiple component leads?

Meital April 14, 2020

Hello,

We manage our issues per component and for each component I need at least 2 leads. For example one would be the project manager and second would be the lead developer.
I cannot define roles per project as it's changed per component in the project.

Is there any way I can set this in JIRA? the goal is to define the leads so we would be able to auto assign issues in the workflow.

Thanks

What are you trying to accomplish by having 2 component leads? Maybe there is a different way to do it. As Joe mentioned, you cant assign an issue to two people. So having two component leads wouldn't help you in that case.

I want to assign the issue to one person. But in each workflow transition I want to define who would be the relevant lead.
I need one lead that is considered as Project manager and the other lead is a developer lead.
Kind of the 'Roles' in the Project level, but I need this in a component level.

There is nothing built in that could do that easily

One way to do it would be with a set of "if/then" style postfunctions.

There are a number of ways to do this.

  • scripting (scriptrunner, powerscripts)
  • JSU (with preconditions)
  • Booleam postfunction (AM utils I think.)
  • Update on transition
  • Or even just conditions on the workflow so that each component uses its own transition to set the user correctly.

The commonality is that you would be defining the relation between the component and the assignee in the postfunction.

If you want some way to define that relation outside the postfunction itself you would have to figure out where you want to define it. You could put it into a small database table for example. Or if you have Insight, you could treat the components as "assets" and assign the users there. So there are a few ways to do it depending on what you have access to.

Not out of the box. Having two leads is like having two assignees, you end up with no one doing the work in too many cases.

The leads are from different type, kind of a 'Role' but for a component level.

What is the way to do that not out of the box?

Thanks!
