How can we migrate to this new LDAP without losing all users history?

We are trying to migrate from Microsoft Active Directory LDAP to Generic Directory Server LDAP with SSL and we are having issues mapping the users from the original database with the users from the new one.

The main issue is that all users from the new database are seen as new, even if the email, employee id and personal id are the same (and recognized as this), meaning that the whole history of each user is lost.

Hi Simina,

For Jira Server, the switching between two different user directories can be tricky.  Jira is not matching up those users based on their email addresses, employee id, etc.  When you switch user directories like this in Jira only one thing really matters: the username of those accounts.   Which means that, as long as the new user directory has the exact same usernames for all your existing users found in your current user directory, the individual account history doesn't change within Jira.

But if the account names are off at all, Jira will consider this to be a different account.  I would recommend checking out the docs on Managing multiple directories.  It helps to explain when the same username exists in multiple user directories, that user can only login with the credentials stored to the top ordered directory.

I hope this helps.  Please let me know if you have any additional concerns about this change.

Andy
