How do I change issue types without losing the watchers

I'm migrating issue types as I'm migrating JIRA tickets from the old workflows/issue types to the new ones I've created, and when I do this migration I lose all the watchers for the issues (it prompts me to re-type them one at a time during the migration) - is there a way to change issue types without losing all the watchers on the issues?

Yes Boris - We're using the watchers add-on. I confirmed with our technical admin (I'm more of a business user admin that does my own config).
