How to browse the JIRA documents?

As nobody is answering my question: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Core-questions/How-to-run-a-script-when-the-user-click-Edit-button/qaq-p/1143185

I try to find out what kind of customization I do with JIRA, then I found it's extremely hard to browse the JIRA documents. There is no table of content! All I can do is google to find a wiki page, and from there I still can't find a well organized section about the customization.

so where can I find all the information about customization, like these workflow transition validator, etc.? all over the place using google?

Hi @Jirong Hu

It depends on the kind of customization you want to do, if you want to do some workflow automation you can refer to (https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/advanced-workflow-configuration-938847443.html).

Listeners: https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/listeners-938846909.html

Scheduled Events: https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/scheduled-jobs-96567525.html

The general Problem with jira core is that it doesn't ahve extensible automation possibilities. If you want for example scripts to do something at a special event you'll need to create an add-on (Documentation here but not recommended: https://developer.atlassian.com/server/jira/platform/get-help/)

For this kind of customization I can warmly recommend the app scriptrunner for Jira (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/6820/scriptrunner-for-jira?hosting=server&tab=overview) which also has an extensive documentation with a lot of examples (https://scriptrunner.adaptavist.com/latest/jira/quickstart.html)

Regards,
Mario

Thanks for your reply! I found the button at the left upper corner to show the "table of content". Following the links you provided, I start to understand it's organization now.

BTW, the ScriptRunner documents are hard to read too for a beginner.
