as Jack already suggested you could try the technical approach listed in the linked thread.
Adding a more "organizational" advice ... you could vote for the Suggestion opened with Atlassian, by doing so you will signalize the topic is of importance to you/your team:

I’m on sure whether this can be done or not. I did find this other post that refers to disabling one of the modules in the Jira service management plug-in.
