Is there any way through the app or DB that we can idenfity which filters are associated with which dashboard?
We wish to tidy up the filters and dashboards we have currently however we can only identify who has these favourited and not where they are used.
This is not directly possible because the filters usage in dashboard is indirectly controlled by the gadets people use. Some people use "Favorite filters" for example, some use specific filters to display. Both will display results of different filters based on the gadgets.
Some gadgets even uses projects or filters to display statistics and so on.
So there is no direct way to find out which ones are using which filters.
We are only interested where a gadget uses a filter that is stored in the database. We wish to identify the impact of removing a filter that may not be favourited but may still be used on a dashboard. Do the standard Atlassian gadgets not store any information in the database where they use filters (favourited or not by the user)?

Not always. For example, the favorite filters gadgets doesn't store the filter information. Intsead it uses the code to find which ones are favorited by the user who is logged in.
