Is there a way to trigger a notification when a date field hits current date? JIRA ONLY no plug ins

I would like for a notification to be sent to the assignee when a date field becomes current.   For example if I enter a task on 1/12/19 for  'Hold conversation with vendor to determine best method...' and I entered 3/13/19 as the Due Date.  Is there a way to send notification to the assignee when 3/13/19 is reached?

Not out of the box. There may be a plugin. The problem is you're going to need a process running in the background looking at every date field you want processed to see if the date/time is >=

Thanks Joe!  I was hoping that I had missed something when reading about listeners and events but nope.
