Issues cannot be sent via "Send the issues from the current filter in emails"

I want to use this feature: Send the current filter: Send the issues from the current filter in emails

Created a filter, click the "Email" button in the top right button area

Expected - wizard allows me to select all the issues from the filter result.

Actual - no issues at all are available to select. The email wizard cannot be completed

Note- I do have a screenshot, fwiw. I clicked the "next" button a bunch of times before realizing that the error is actually on the first screen.  It would be nice to make this message more comprehensible for the case where there are no issues "which you are allowed..."

Sounds like the answer is, unfortunately, "Jira can't do it natively." Closing question as not really answerable without administrative troubleshooting not available to me at this time.

Hi Liz,

That is correct, as per my initial reply this is not a built-in feature to Jira and requires a 3rd party add-on.

Thank you for your understanding and if your admin has any questions regarding it please feel free to send them here.

Regards,

Shannon

Hello Liz,

You are correct that Jira does not support the functionality of the add-on Email This Issue natively. It was suggested that support for the add-on is readily available to you if you require it. While the add-on is from the Atlassian Marketplace, Atlassian does not support the vendors products themselves. We would suggest you reach out to the vendor to make them aware of the issues you’re having with their product. If they don’t know about problems, they don’t know it’s something that needs to be fixed. You are also welcome to make the vendor aware of this post to have context to the problem as well. As Shannon stated, here is the contact information for the vendor;

Jira does offer native functionality for email notifications, which you may find at Configuring email notifications. As stated within that document;

You must be logged in as a user with the Administer Jira global permission.

However, add-ons extend the functionality of Jira past the native configuration. If you feel that Atlassian should consider adding functionality to Jira, we would urge you to create a feature request to have said functionality added. You may submit a feature request at Suggest a Feature. (ensure you choose the proper product and select suggestion).

With this said, majority of support related work that requires additional configuration will require elevated and/or administrative access to the Atlassian applications. You may find more about Jira permission levels at Permissions overview. While some support related issue can be address without needing elevated access, to change configurations within Jira (to include email notifications or reviewing add-ons) you will be required to have said access. As Shannon has suggested, it would be advised to work with your Jira Administrators to help ensure the configurations with Jira meet the requirements of the users. Along with this, we invite you to include your local administrators within these support forums to better assist you.

If you’re not wanting to post topics that may contain sensitive information and are not suitable for a publicly available forum, we do invite you to submit a support request so we may work with yourself and your administrators to resolve your issues. You are welcome to create a support request at Contact support. Please know that support will need the assistance of a local administrator to work through configuration issues.

I hope this helps to clarify how to get support for the Atlassian applications along with support for Marketplace add-ons. Your point is valid for having native functionality for additional email notifications and we would urge you to create a feature request with your idea.

Regards,
Stephen Sifers

Yes, a few dozen issues in the query results. I want a nice clickable list in an email to share with my team ...not just a link to my query.

I've already written my query, then what is the additional layer of selecting supposed to do? I'm new to jira and not sure how this feature is supposed to work. So far i have resorted to awkward copy, paste of html from the browser window itself ! Very awkward and ugly, there must be a better way.

Thanks for any tips.

Thank you, Liz.

Is it possible that you're using an add-on in order to email the issues? It doesn't appear to be a built-in feature to Jira.

I suspect it might be Email This Issue add-on, and here's an example of how that looks:

If so, I've tagged the marketplace collection so the vendor may see your question here. Otherwise you can reach out to them directly:

Shannon

Hm... I appreciate the suggestion. Could be but I have no way of knowing.

I wish I could find a way to tell whether it's an add-on or not, but sadly my organization has blocked all non-admins from even seeing administrative-type configurations. I've attached a screenshot showing the button on my system (it's a bit different from the one you shared).

Setting aside the broken button for a moment: are there any other best practices you could suggest for achieving my actual goal of a neatly-formatted shareable list of issues with clickable links? This was a feature of Microsoft TFS that I used constantly and it was extremely simple and easy. The copy-paste capability was built right into the UI.

Hi Liz,

In that case you will want to consult your Jira admin as they would be able to check that for you. Any broken features in Jira instances would require admin testing and log access, and these are things that your admin can perform for you.

As for the type of export you require, you might be able to find what you need on Marketplace or build it using the Jira API.

Shannon

Liz,

From my understanding, there are search results on the filter in Jira, but you're not seeing them when you get to this screen?

Or is it that you know there to be issues in the filter but you don't have access to see any of them?

Regards,

Shannon
