JIRA: Trigger Workflow On Ticket Update

Shelli

Is there a way to create a workflow trigger based on updates to the actual ticket?  For example, if a ticket is in a certain status and the requestor adds a comment, transition ticket to new status?

It appears that the only triggers available are based on actions made outside of JIRA, commits, reviews, etc.

Hello Shelli,

There is a version of the automation plugin for JIRA Server too. Please, check the link below if you want to give it a try:

Automation Lite for JIRA

P.S: Note that this plugin has 300 free executions per month.

Let me know if this option works for you.

Thanks again.  The 300 activations/month is way too low for our usage and the monthly pricing for the pro version is very high.  IMO, this functionality should be native to JIRA and not require a plugin.

Hello Shelli,

The triggers you mentioned are indeed related only to linked development tools like BitBucket, as you can see in the documentation below:

Advanced Workflow Configuration

That been said, there are some plugins/options you can use to perform such automation.

If you are using JIRA Service Desk, you can the in-built automation and create a simple rule to transition your ticket when a comment is performed.

If you are using JIRA Core or Software, you can use the plugin Automation for JIRA to create the following rule:

Let me know if this information helps.

Thank you for your response.  We are using JIRA Software installed on our own server, so unfortunately the plugin you suggested won't work for us.  Nice that it is free though.

I would expect that JIRA could do this type of thing as part of its core code. :(
