Jira Charting Plugin calculation

If we have a project where project with 12 months of data in it already, and want to start using the Jira Charting Plugin and specifically the Average Time in Status gadget. . . which requires the addition of the Time In Status field to your project screens.  If I add the Time In Status field today, will the previous 12 months of issues get populated with the right values for accurate calculation in the Average Time in Status gadget?  If not, is there a way to force a refresh of the Time in Status field for all the old issue?

No, but yes.  Add the field, then re-index, it should pick up all the history then.
