Jira Upgrade

Hello.

I have a Jira Instance which is old (version 4.4.1) in a Windows OS and using MySQL.

We want to upgrade it to Jira 7.10.

I've been reading Atlassian Documentation and I have found this:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver073/upgrading-jira-applications-861253088.html

Can I ask you what upgrade mode do you recommend?

Do you think I can upgrade jira 4.4.1 directly to Jira 7.10?

Thanks.

You'll need the "rapid upgrade", as the doc says.

You also ask

>Do you think I can upgrade jira 4.4.1 directly to Jira 7.10?

Absolutely not, that will simply fail, miserably.  You will need to upgrade to 5.2, then 6.4, then 7.0, then 7.target.

See the "skipping versions" link near the bottom of the main article for full details.

Where can I find that link? ("Skipping versions").

Hello.

I think I've posted the wrong link above. As I want to upgrade Jira to Jira 7.10 I think the right Documentation URL should be this:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver0710/upgrading-jira-applications-953144305.html

Can you please confirm?

(I think The other link is to make the upgrade into Jira 7.3.)

You're right, the docs will have changed between 7.3 and 7.10.  But the link to skipped versions on the 7.3 page is still valid.

Ok, thanks.

But, in this case can you confirm if the upgrade path, to upgrade from Jira 4.4.1 to Jira 7.10 is the same you mentioned? (4.4.1 ->5.2 .-> 6.4 -> 7.0 -> 7.target).

Because in the link to upgrade to 7.10 (the lattest I'Ve placed in here) I think the upgrade type I should use is the "Upgrading Jira Using the Installer".

THis URL:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver0710/upgrading-jira-applications-using-the-installer-953144306.html

And under "Plan your upgrade", for Jira Core I can see a table. In here I think the upgrade path should be:

Jira 4.4.1 -> 4.4.5 -> 6.4 -> 7.0 -> 7.10.

SO I am a little confused.

Can you confirm which upgrade path is the correct one?

Thanks.

Ah, yes, my route is slightly different.  I've had problems upgrading from 4 to 6 direct, so I usually go through 5.2.  You should test the official route first, definitely.  If you get to 6.4 without any problems, that's great.  (The problems I've had were with add-ons, not the core product)

I've done the update following this path: Jira 4.4.1 -> 4.4.5 -> 6.4 -> 7.0 -> 7.10.

So far i am on version 7.0 and everything looks ok. Only the last update missing.

However, I have a question: what should I do about the plugins present in version 4.4.1? I mean should I update them before I make the update or it doesn't matter?
