Link Issues across Premium and Basic Jira Boards

I'm working (temporarily) in a mixed Premium / Basic set up and need to link stories across the two environments. I'm told that this is not possible, but I read that linking can be done if administrators enable fully reciprocal application links. I'm not sure if this will solve the limit between Premium / Basic, does anyone have a clue?

We do plan to migrate all systems to same setup in time but I need something now to manage two linked projects.
