Parent status' to automatically update

I am looking for a function in Jira which will update my parent status based on it's sub-tasks' status'. 

Is this possible without an add-on?

It's not possible out of the box in Jira. You will need an addon for it.

Try one of the following

• Script Runner
• Automation
• Power Scripts
• Jira Suite Utilities

Using any of the above you can achieve what you want. All above plugins are paid.

To my knowledge it is not possible without an add-on though I could be wrong. 

There are a number of add-ons that allow this functionality.

Dear @Ilze Schoeman,

not completely true - its a matter of the perspective. If you would like to do this within Jira you need a plugin. If you perform this action outside you will just need to call Jira's REST API and your brain. ;)
