Project Inaccessible for a period of time

Vyvyan Fuge June 4, 2019

When a new project is created and visible in project listings. However, the project is initially inaccessible but this usually resolves itself after 24 hours or so.

This is not a permissions issue.

Hi Vyvyan,

I understand that immediately after creating a new project in Jira Server, you are unable to access this project, however within about a day you can then access this project.   I have been trying to think of a scenario where this would happen within Jira Server.

The best I can come up with is that there might be a problem in regards to the indexes Jira has.  Is your Jira site a very large instance with lots of issues, custom fields, project, workflows, etc?  If yes, then it might be that Jira is failing to index this change quickly, and the system is having to wait until the indexes are updated later on to reflect this change.

There are three things I would like to know to try to move forward here:

  1. What happens when you create a project with the project key XYZ and then try to go to the URL $JIRAURL/projects/XYZ right after creating the project?   What does the page look like that loads here?
  2. I would also be interested to see if we can take a closer look at your log file that Jira creates in $JIRAHOME/log/atlassian-jira.log   It should be able to tell us more about your environment and possibly if my hunch about index problems are correct.  Alternatively, gathering a support zip would also give us lots of good information about your environment.
  3. What version of Jira is this?

Thanks

Andy
