Admin screens very slow to load

Benjamin Bramson May 2, 2018

I've been working in an instance of Jira that is starting to grow very quickly. A result of this growth is we have a lot of custom fields (just under 3k) and quite a few workflows (almost 150). This has caused many of our Admin screens to be pretty slow to load (Custom fields and workflows screens in particular). I've watched our server metrics (RAM & CPU) while those screens load and I don't see anything spiking.

Short of cleaning up both lists (we are working on that) is there anything I can do to get those pages to load faster?

FYI, we are running Jira Server 7.4.4

Hi Benjamin,

You may want to check your heap size for Jira, if your Jira instance has "outgrown" its heap you will encounter slowness/performance issues.

I would say have a look at Jira-sizing-guide as a rough guide on how much heap you should allocate to Jira.

Definitely a good idea on getting rid of any unused custom fields and workflows, you may even want to context your custom fields from global to specific projects instead of having a global context.

One helpful third party plugin to clean up unused cruft in Jira is - Cleaner for Jira, this will show you unused schemes and also helps auto context your Custom fields too.

Hope this helps,

Dave
