App install fails but what log files to look at?

We're running Jira v8.0.2 and I tried to install the "Jira User Export" app and, after clicking the Accept and Install button, get "An error occurred during installation. Refer to the logs for more information."

So I go to /opt/atlassian/jira/logs and look at the log files (focusing mostly on catalina.out) but I don't see any reference to an app install failure (in fact, no output at all).

Does "Refer to the logs" mean log files somewhere else?

Check your atlassian-jira.log under atlassian/application-data/jira/logs

Interesting.  I found that log file in /var/atlassian/application-data/jira/log and was tailing it when I installed that app again.  It failed and nothing was written to that log file.  That file system was not 100% full nor were any of the file systems full.  I also note that the last entry in that log file was dated back on October 20th even though another log file in that directory (atlassian-jira-security.log) had been written to today.

That app was authored by Lasse Langhorn.  Should I report this to him or is there a more centralized way of handling this problem?

Thank you, @Mikael Sandberg

Yes, I would definitely reach out the the app vendor about the issue you see.

Hi Bruce,

The Jira User Export jar file is almost 21 MB in size which can cause some troubles if the request body parameter for the reverse proxy like Apache or Nginx is set too low.

Atlassian article: https://confluence.atlassian.com/stashkb/updating-add-ons-by-file-upload-hangs-using-upm-660735049.html

I am sorry for this and I have a task to lower the size of the jar file.

Regards

Lasse Langhorn

Hi, Lasse Langhorn

What happened to Jira User Export? I was looking for the Jira User Export app for Data Center and couldn’t find any information.

Was it discontinued for Jira Data Center?
