Destrict fields for users

Deleted user November 22, 2017

Hi community,

how can I restrict fields for users?

For example a field "cost" in an issue can only be filled out by User A and B.

Greetings,

Julian

Hey @[deleted],

One other option to consider is to add an add-on like Power Scripts. It can easily create these field-level restrictions you need.

One way of doing this is just hiding the field from users who aren't in a specific project role. We've created a short 7 min video detailing how to setup the add-on and the script that does the hiding.

We've also included the sample script we used, so you can just copy and paste it to try yourself.

Hope this helps!

Jira does not do field level security, so you can't do this directly.

Your options are

  • Move "edit" into your workflow and protect the transitions that allow edit
  • Look at add-ons that provide secured fields, such as Quisapps
  • (Arguably, javascript kludges or, better, Behaviours, can help, but there are really simple ways around those)

Julian,

Field-level security is not possible in Jira, and although it was requested as a feature years ago, we will not be pursuing it:

Please review the page below for information on why that will be:

We have also listed a few workarounds there, so please have a look at them and let us know if you have any questions.

Kind regards,

Shannon
